About Holly 〰️

I am a person-centred pluralistic therapist with specialist training and experience in the postnatal period and maternal mental health and I am also the founder of YOUR MAMAHOOD.

I'm here for the wobbles, the self-care and development, but I'm also here for the big stuff. The hard bits of life that we need a helping hand with.

My approach is down-to-earth, informal and relaxed and I truly believe it is so important that you find a therapist you're comfortable with and that feels like the right fit for you.

How I work:

When working with me, we talk about your feelings, beliefs and behaviours so that you can get to know yourself better, your situation, and find better ways to cope or manage what's going on for you. I'm there to help guide you and find understanding in that process.

It also means I sometimes draw on a range of other therapeutic methods and tailor therapy to you and your individual needs. That could be building and using evidenced based tools and coping mechanisms or working in a more directive, proactive way to work out what might be most helpful together.

There are no expectations or targets for our sessions. I'd love to be able to say I can fix it all and suddenly make everything better, but no one can do that unfortunately (run away from anyone that promises they can!) and I really believe you know yourself and your unique situation better than anyone else.

I can help you find out what that means personally to you and in the sessions we can unpack what it is you really need.

Sometimes we come to counselling for a specific reason and sometimes we really just need to offload to someone without judgement, in a safe space, rather than taking those feelings elsewhere and expressing them in less helpful ways.

You may feel like a couple of sessions gives you clarity or you might want several, or ongoing sessions - it can be quite a rollercoaster when we start to get to know ourselves better, it's completely up to you how you use the sessions and what you want to talk about.

Sessions are available online (via Google Meet) my private therapy room (available from July in Lichfield city centre), or in the comfort of your own home (South Staffs/West Midlands area). Home visits are for those in the postpartum period or where leaving your baby might not be possible. Please get in touch to find out more about how they work.

My specialist areas:

I have a particular interest in working with women during the transformative period of becoming a mother and helping those struggling with postpartum mental health such as postpartum/postnatal depression, anxiety and birth trauma.

I might be the right counsellor for you if:

 - You don't like super formal, clinical therapy approaches and want to work with someone in a relaxed and comfortable way.

- You want to feel heard and understood and work with someone who genuinely wants you to get the best out of therapy.

- You'd like to work through issues such as identity loss, low self-esteem, overwhelming negative feelings, motherhood and matrescence, postpartum anxiety and/or depression and birth related issues.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced counsellor qualifying with an accredited PGDip in Counselling Psychology from Keele University in 2016.

I am a specialist in the postpartum period and maternal mental health having completed further training as a postpartum care practitioner, working with postnatal depression & anxiety and most recently in birth trauma.

I am also trained in working with clients online.

I have my own private practice and have previously worked as a counsellor in a higher education setting with students and staff and in a charity organisation for adolescents and young adults.

I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP, adhering to their guidance and ethical framework at all times.
