Lighthouse Fertility and Pregnancy Support

Jen McNabb - Lighthouse Fertility and Pregnancy Support

Hi, I’m Jen. I’m mum to two little boys, and I’m a social worker. After having a difficult journey to becoming a parent myself (eventually resulting in IVF) I decided to leave my career as an adoption social worker and set up a service specialising in supporting those who have been impacted by infertility and/or baby loss. I strongly believe there is a real lack of understanding about the impact infertility can have - not just while you’re in it, but how the grief and trauma of infertility can follow on into subsequent pregnancies and impact your experience of parenting also.

Often when you’re pregnant after infertility or baby loss those around you (and even maternity professionals) can be so focussed on the happy side of the pregnancy that they may miss the anxiety, overwhelm, and grief you are carrying from your fertility journey. It can be a lonely experience, and a long 9 months of worry, anxiety and expecting the worst to happen. Experience of infertility can chip away at your self-worth and lead to you holding a negative narrative about yourself and your body. It can add strain to relationships and friendships.

I work in a very flexible, tailored way to help people take back a sense of control over their life, to find ways to reduce anxiety and improve wellbeing, to process the impact of a difficult fertility journey or prepare for their next steps. I greatly believe in the power of connection and of a supportive relationship where you can be your full self and this is what I provide - a safe space where you can speak freely with someone who gets it, without fear of judgement or being misunderstood.

“Pregnancy after infertility or loss can be a difficult, lonely experience - but there are ways to maintain your emotional wellbeing, get more enjoyment from your pregnancy and manage your worries. You are not alone in feeling this way - connecting with others who really get it can be transformative.”

- Jen
